Okay, so my macbook is new, version 10.6.4 and because of these periodic game lock ups I spent 1200 dollars on a computer that runs worse then my old 500 dollar computer. First i'll explain the problem then give you guys my computer specs in hopes that you can tell me whats wrong. My game doesn't really freeze so much as lock up, ill be running around in a bg, dungeon, capital city, pretty much anywhere in public it happens. I've noticed it seems to happen whenever something pops up on the screen ie: loot windows, opening character sheet, spell effects, friends list.. pretty much anything seems to cause this to happen, I have not been able to narrow it down at all. I've turned ALL of my settings to the bare minimum, the problem persisted, I turned them all up to max, the problem persisted. It does not seem to matter what my video settings are, because if I play at min I get 50 + frames and if I play at max I get 50+ frames. What happens is ill have 50 frames, and my game will just lock up, then a few seconds later it will be back to 50 frames again.

Now ill link the computer specs that I -think- are helpful in this situation, but im no computer whiz so if theres anything more needed to help me with this solution please let me know because right now its making the game unplayable and im just considering removing wow and cancelling my subscription because I can not play at all because of this. I've deleted all my wow files and practically reinstalled the game, i've ran the repair thing and scanned my computer with MacScan dozens of times and nothing ever shows up so..I don't know where to turn now.

Note: If you are using a wireless connection of any kind, please try to connect using a wired connection such as an ethernet cable as a temporary test. Wireless connections can be unstable in general and many things beyond your control such as nearby cordless telephones, microwave ovens, refrigerators, walls, distance and outside power lines can and often do interfere with the signal integrity. If you stop being disconnected while using a wired connection you will know your wireless is suffering from interference from a nearby source. If you are still disconnected regularly, please continue using your wired connection for the remainder of our troubleshooting.

* Addons & Custom UI Mods

Custom UI mods can also cause connection issues. With the game closed please try moving or deleting your WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE folders out of your World of Warcraft directory. These are temporary cache files that will be recreated by the game the next time you launch. Moving them to the desktop makes it easy to replace them if necessary.

Reset the permissions on your WoW folder:
1. Select the World of Warcraft folder
2. Press Command + I
3. In the World of Warcraft Info box, go to the Sharing & Permissions (Ownership & Permissions if on 10.4) section
4. Click on the lock and unlock it, entering your admin password when prompted.
5. make sure you have Read & Write permissions
6. Click on the Burst icon (cog wheel) and select Apply to enclosed items

** If using Mac OS 10.4.11, just click on the Apply to Enclosed items button. (no cog wheel)

Reset the temp files:
1. Navigate to /Applications/World of Warcraft/
2. Delete the Cache folder.
3. Move Interface and WTF to the Desktop.
4. Launch WoW.

* Firewalls (Including the one on your router)

Firewalls and routers are designed specifically to control your computer's incoming and outgoing connections. You may need to set up these security features to allow access to the game servers. If these are not set up correctly, the firewall or router may prevent you from connecting to World of Warcraft. You may also want to try bypassing the router by connecting directly to your modem with an Ethernet or USB cable. This is only a troubleshooting step and may help isolate where the connection problem is occurring. If you have any firewall software please try uninstalling it temporarily. Please only do this if you have a backup copy available. This will let you know for certain if there is an issue with the firewall blocking the connection. Most firewalls when disabled will keep blocking information so the uninstallation is necessary for most types of firewall software. For the Windows firewall, you will only need to disable it because you are unable to uninstall it. If the issue seems to be resolved by doing this the firewall was not properly configured.

Please see this page for port information and advice on setting up your firewall/router for World of Warcraft:

* Disabling the Background Downloader

You may need to disable the Blizzard Background Downloader to improve your game play performance. Instructions for doing so can be found here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/21074

Are you playing with a wired or wireless connection? If wireless, please, try with an ethernet connection. From what you're describing, anytime there's a burst of information (opening a loot window, inspecting fellow players, etc.), you're having a latency burst as well.

Let's run a trace:

1. Go to Mac HD => Applications => Utilities folder.
2. Open the Network Utility program.
3. Choose Traceroute tab.
4. In the box enter: us.logon.battle.net
5. Click the Trace button.
6. Select all the data that comes up in the box below.
7. Command + C to copy the data.
8. In your reply, use Command + V to paste the data.

To get a trace to the realm while you're connected:
1. Go to Mac HD => Applications => Utilities folder.
2. Open the Network Utility program.
3. Choose Netstat tab and leave "Display the state of all current socket connections" selected.
4. Click "Scan."
5. Find the first foreign address that says bnetgam.
6. Copy/paste the IP address into the Traceroute tab.
7. Command + C to copy the data resulting from the trace.
8. In your reply, use command + V to paste the data.

Based on the first hop of your second trace, it looks like your router may be having some initial trouble resolving the connection. Would it be possible to bypass it?

- Unplug the power to your modem.
- Follow the ethernet cable from the modem to the router. Unplug it from the router.
- Plug this end into your computer.
- Plug the power back into your modem and let it start up.
- Restart your computer.
- Test.
