When patching or installing, it is best to use a wired connection. Using wireless for such a large file risks file corruption and disconnections during the download which can result in the Installer requesting a CD or DVD when the connection degrades.
In addition, you will want to make sure that your firewall is configured to properly allow the Downloader access to the internet. If you're getting a message that your computer is behind a firewall, the first thing to check is any security software on your system. Make sure that if you have security software on your system that it's disabled, removed or configured properly for WoW. When you uninstalled Norton, did you use the removal tool? Yep, Norton has a special bit of software to remove itself from a Mac.
